The 38-40 cm big, brilliantly black Alps-crow stands out through its 4,5 cm long and downward bent, shining-red beak as well as its red legs. it is well distinguishable through it from the smaller gelbschnäbligen Alpendohle.

The reputations of the Alps-crows resemble those of the crows in its harshness while Alpendohlen express more melodic lutes, that correspond those of the Dohlen.
