Amazon-dolphin Scientific name: Inia geoffrensisNatural spread: South America in the river-systems of the Orinoko and Amazon lives individually or in pairs, more rarely also in small groups up to 6 animals, the Amazon-dolphin, a representative of the Flußdelphinartigen. In its South American home, it becomes "Bouto", also "Bufeo" or "Tonina" named. This dolphin becomes 2-3 m long, its flippers (= poor) are unusually big in the comparison to the body, the tail fluke becomes up to 50 cm broadly. The back-fin stretches comb-nicely over almost the half back, and a characteristic characteristic of this dolphin is its roundish before-curved forehead-part with the nose-opening at its highest place. The long muzzle of the Amazon-dolphin is almost round in the cross-section and one little downward bent. In each jaw-half, 33-34 teeth stand, of which the rear ones train a clear comb in 8-9. Over the entire muzzle and parts of the face distributed considers short bristles for itself.
Coloring The coloring is a showy peculiarity of the Amazon-dolphins. it is very variable and can be until after white from shining light-blue beyond pink. Since the animals don't have any natural enemies, they obviously don't need any camouflage-colors.
Nutrition Amazon-dolphins live from fishings up to 30 cm of length, that they track down in the muddy, opaque water of its home-rivers with Echolotung. Although its eyes are quite small, they can see well, observed like one at imprisoned animals.
