the Bärenmaki belongs to the animals, who are only little known. it is only rare to see in zoos. Here it shows a little showy behavior so that it is hardly heeded by most visitors.
The Bärenmaki actually would have to be called Bärenlori, because with the active ones and langschwänzigen of real Makis from the family of the Lemuren, it has little awfully. it is a real Lori in its whole shape and way of life.
Shape In the shape, and even more in the way of life, it resembles its next relative, that Potto. With a length of 23-30 cm, however, the Märenmaki is smaller. its face doesn't work so approximately, and the nose moved out longer so that its portrait reminds more of a Galago. The Bärenmaki possesses a hardly visible stub-tail. This earned it its name beside its placid way of life. Until on hands and feet, its whole body with a fleecy, long and dense fur is covered. On the back, it has a red-golden appearance.
Showy is the changed extremity. At its hands, the index finger is almost whole and the middle finger until on one nail-draws lots stubs reduced. The Zeigefinder of the feet carries a claw like with most semi-monkeys. All other fingers are equipped with flat nails. Semi-monkeys.
Way of life With his hands well adjusted at the way of life and feet, the Bärenmaki usually hangs headlong in the branches of the jungle-trees like a sloth. it clings so firmly, that it can sleep in this position, and even with its death, it retains this position. its movement is slow-motion-like. it approaches its loot so unseen, that it then snatches with a grip fast as lightning.
Food its food consists mainly of birds as well as insects and their larvae. However, the Bärenmaki should eat also fruits or other vegetarian food.
