the Baumpieper lives Südspaniens and the high north all over almost Europe with exception. Eastward, it occurs up to the Lena. The European birds spend the winter in the Mediterranean-area, some also pull in far to Africa while the eastern populations spend the winter in India.

Looks like the 15-16 cm big Baumpieper the Wiesenpieper (Pieper), however, its plumage is sallow opposite the greenish plumage of the Wiesenpiepers.

Way of life its big, bowl-shaped nest builds the Baumpieper from dry grass and moss in open, only loosely with trees and bushes of passed terrains. The nest is camouflaged so good that one often notices it only through the female flying up in last second. Baumpieper like to be also in light forests and at forest-edges. they have a preference for resting places in branches where they move not jumping but continuously also like the other Pieper at the ground. The claw of the rear-toe is the adherence to branches strongly bent and relieved the bird. From such elevated resting places from, but of course also during the Balzfluges, the male lets its typical chant resound. The spiral-shaped Singflug of the Baumpiepers differs also in it from the straight one of the Wiesenpiepers that the Baumpieper comes back again on its elevated location afterwards.
