the big Beo (Gracula religiosa religiosa) is a popular cage-bird, because moreover it very educational-capable and a gifted mimic of the human language is. it is thought tamely gladly of the native in the house and is reached in inferior number of pieces also to Europe.
Beos can imitate foreign lutes more lifelike than parrots. So, they succeed with Z. B., to return not only the auditioned words but, to meet on that occasion also the voice-situation right. One hears it especially gladly whistling however shrilly or gives away gurgling Kehllaute, tone-remarks, that can hold together a whole association of 25-30 of the sociably living birds in natural surroundings.
Spread With many races, that little in color and size, however, for it in form and color of the typical, usually yellow skin-rags at the rear-head deviates, the Beos live in predominantly light Urwälder with protruding big trees, bamboo-thickets and mountainsides. The little one Beo (Gracula religiosa indica) lives in the southern India and Sri Lanka, the Mittelbeo (Gracula religiosa intermedia) in the hill-landscapes Nordindiens as far as to South-China and the big Beo (Gracula religiosa religiosa) in Malaysia, on Sumatra and Borneo, Bali and the surrounding islands.
Coloring The plumage is immediately colored with both sexes. The main-color is black with crimson or green-shiny glimmer at different body-parts. This carries swinging a white wing-stain, the soft beak is orange-yellow and shining.
Food The birds live mainly from fruits, beside it however also from insects and worms. Occasionally, they act as nest-robbers. They are very active particularly in the early morning hours and before sunset. They move noisily in pairs on that occasion or to several through the jungle and over bald levels. The flight even resembles a tuneful total.
Reproduction The Nistplätze lie in tree-caves, often in abandoned woodpecker-caves, highly above in big trees. In well padded nests is usually raised two kids.
