in Australia's mountain and hill-countries, where the day-temperatures often rise to more than 45 °C, becomes the survival for many bigger animals heavily. For heat most severe in the times, water-places are rare, and as hard grass only remain food. There, one finds the mountain-kangaroos, who are among the giant-kangaroos. Male animals reach a vertex-height of 140 cm upright sedentary, females are approximately smaller by one quarter. Because of its resistance against dryness and heat and its unpretentiousness to the feed, they are superior for the pasture-animals of the Australians. Where the sheep reject the juicy grass, Spinifex-Gras stretches, whose rough stalks of these are spurned. For kangaroos, it is an important feed-plant on the other hand. Even there, where the sheep-breeding declines through Überweidung of the grasslands, the kangaroos still have good life-conditions. The big Springbeutler are very unpopular with the sheep-breeders. they stand in the wrong bad reputation unfortunately to make the feed debatable for the pasture-animals. Therefore, a stronger prosecution of these animals usually follows on the increase of the kangaroos.

During the hottest time of day, the mountain-kangaroos look for shelter in caves mostly where the temperatures rise not so highly. With severe dryness, they dig until holes deep to 1 m in order to reach the groundwater. These water-places benefit also other animals. Mountain-kangaroos are widespread.

Near relatives types Only in one small area Nordaustraliens, the black mountain-kangaroo (Macropus bernardus) lives. The brightly reddish-brown antelope-kangaroos (Macropus antilopinus) are especially gracefully built. they actually remind something of these ungulates, whose names carry it.
