Gayal

GayalScientific name:
Bos gaurus frontalis

Natural spread:
Asia

the Gayal is a partially again neglected pet-form of the Gaur according to widespread opinion. However, some scientists are of the opinion that the Gayal followed from a crossing of Gaur and Banteng. The Gayal becomes on the other hand from unites looked at zoologist as an originally independent game-cow-type, that was made to the pet and from which only the domesticated descendants survived until today.

Shape The withers-height of the Gayal amounts to approximately 150 cm, its weight approximately 800 kg. it is short-more legged and more roundish than the Gaur. The horns point after the side, they are blunt-cone-y, turned exactly or only weakly upward. A double dewlap is at throat and neck. The coloring is Gaur-artig brown-black; white insignia, Scheckung and total whiteness occur.

Utilization of the human being Gayale cross with wild district-reindeer, the Bastardierung with Zeburindern yields pets with very valuable qualities.

Gayale rarely are held in stalls or on fenced in paddocks. they usually live in a half-wild condition and visit the same habitats like the Gaur. Into the villages, the forehead-cows with salt-licks are lured.

The Gayal is thought of mountain-trunks like the Nagas, that these cows use in modest scope as Zugtiere. The milk-profit is very low with the Gayal and therefore doesn't play any role. These cows have the biggest meaning as battle - and above all as victim-animals.
