Häherlinge

HäherlingeScientific name:
Garrulax

Natural spread:
southeast-Asia

the type Häherlinge includes approximately 50 types of relatively big birds (22-30 cm of length), who around-rave noisily like our jays in small troops. its spread-area is limited on southeast-Asia where they belong to the showiest birds. Most live in the mountain-forests and live from different fruits and insects, many types also of small birds, Nagern or reptiles, here.

Chant Giving almost all Häherlinge undergoes ablaut musical reputations, some are very good singers, Z. B. the Weißohrhäherling, Garrulax chinensis, or the Augenbrauenhäherling, Garrulax canorus.

Types The Haubenhäherling (Garrulax leucolophus) from the Himalayagebiet, Assam, Nepal and Sikkim is approximately 30 cm big. it carries one, silken white mop of hair and a wide, white breast-bib, thick in the contrast to its dark brown plumage. The female differs only in one smaller mop of hair. The mop of hair is almost always set up carried. Beside its own melodic Pfeiftönen, the Haubenhäherlinge can imitate the chant of other types well.

The nest of the Haubenhäherlings is put together carelessly from branches, grass-stalks, leaf-stalks and mosses. Usually it lies in a tree highly above and contains four to six white eggs.

Several types of Weißkehlhäherlingen live in the Himalaya, Nepal and China.
