Koboldmaki

KoboldmakiScientific name:
Tarsiidae

Natural spread:
Philipinen

the Koboldmakis is quite conspicuous and uncommon primates. they stand in the system with the semi-monkeys, earns a special-position here however surely. The sex of the Koboldmakis is very old. Already 60-65 million years ago, relatives of the present-day types lived in North America and Europe.

Today, they populate in southeast-Asia into 3 types, Tarsius syrichta, Tarsius spectrum and Tarsius bancanus, the rain-forest and bamboo or undergrowth-thickets. It is pure tree-inhabitants, who are only the at night active. During the day, they sleep hidden in the dense vegetation, at vertical trunks clinched. The head is pulled deeply into the shoulders when sleeping. Koboldmakis live individually or in pairs. Also small troops of 3-4 animals were observed.

Shape The approximately rat-big Koboldmakis have one more than body-reaches, bare tail, that is thinly hairy only on the end. With the tail, the Koboldmakis support themselves at vertical trunks with the mountaineering and rests.

they have a short, dense, silken fur. It is predominantly dun, more rarely dark brown or light. The underside is ever lighter than the back, gray, ocher or dark-gray.

The head is disproportionate big and nearly globular. Nose and neck are very short. In the face, two gigantic, "goblin-like" eyes stand in front. Among all primates, the Koboldmakis have the relatively biggest eyes. The eyes even are hardly movable. The head can be turned by 360 degrees after type of the owls however instead.

In contrast to all other semi-monkeys, the Koboldmakis have a dry one, with hair of occupied nose, that doesn't divide the waiter-lip after type of the Lemuren either. The häutigen ears are in permanent movement with these active night-animals.

Fingers and toes have flat nails, that in 2. and 3. Toe is with finery-claws, however, equipped. The fingers are very long and carry at the top, strongly widened custody-bale, yields. The arms are clearly shorter than the legs, that essentially longer than the upper arms forearm.

The legs are on tried at jumping in particular manner. The tarsus still is to stronger extent as extends with the Galagos. The leg consists of three long levers, thighs, lower legs and foot-root. The actual foot with the gripping-capable, big thumb connects only to the extended foot-root.

The thumb of the hand is less opponierbar (to compare the other fingers) than the big toe.

In contrast to the other semi-monkeys, the Koboldmakis don't possess any tooth-comb in the lower jaw. The low edge-teeth (only 2) show in front after diagonally upward and not. While the upper cuspids are only small, the upper edge-teeth are extended and pointed. The cheek-teeth are specialized particularly on chewing insect-food.

Food Koboldmakis hunt insects and spiders preferentially. They like to enrich its menu through vertebrates, like small, tree-living reptiles.

Koboldmakis are in the situation, even flying insects to erhaschen. The victim is observed exactly and is envisaged, the distance exactly appraised. The Koboldmakis then suddenly jump onward and seize the loot, a big bug or a small lizard, with both hands.

Jumps the preferred locomotion-manner of the Koboldmakis is. Almost, they jump on the flat ground like frogs, turned on that occasion the tail on the backs. In the trees, they jump off backwards from a vertical position. they turn around during the jump and first land again with the hind legs at the next vertical trunk. Koboldmakis jump several meters from tree to tree far and from the ground over 1,5 m high.

Reproduction Koboldmakis almost drive after type of the monkeys intensive mutual fur-care. Particularly the males like to swim the crawl the combination-makes ready females. The males give away sounds, that are very similar for chirping from birds. Koboldmakis don't have any solid reproductive-times in the year. The Tragzeit amounts to 180 days.

The boys were born full-hairy. The eyes open directly after the birth. The young can climb independently soon and can jump. The mother carries the baby at the stomach or in the mouth. The boys possibly are independent already after one month.

Maximum-ages In captivity, Koboldmakis became up to 12 year old.

Endangering The Philippinenkoboldmaki (Tarsius syrichta) is endangered despite precautions, and also the Celebeskoboldmaki (Tarsius spectrum) is threatened through habitat-destructions.
