the Muntjaks is original stags with a simple skewer or fork-antlers. It sits on long rose-sticks, that continue as Wülste over the upper socket-edge until on the bridges from the forehead-leg from. The Wülste meet on the bridges in the middle. The upper jaw-cuspids of the bucks are extended to tusks, that stick out over the lower jaw.

Muntjaks are relatively small. The withers-height amounts to 40-65 cm. Muntjaks are built over behind. The fur-color can brown, but also gray until blackish is canceled.

System The subfamily of the Muntjakhirsche includes 2 types (Muntiacus and Elaphodus) with altogether 6 types. The mop of hair-stag (Elaphodus cephalophus) carries only quite inconspicuous antlerses in form of small tops, that sits on short rose-sticks and that is covered by a long mop of hair almost completely on the forehead of the bucks.

Spread Muntjakhirsche live in the southern and eastern Asia. One finds it in India, rear-India, on Sri Lanka, the Sundainseln as well as in the middle and eastern China.

Habitat Muntjaks live in the forests of the level as bush-panties as far as into the mountains.

Way of life The Muntjakhirsche live individually or in small-groups. Like other primitive stags, they are not inclined to the herd-formation. they are active predominantly at night. With big skill, the Muntjaks slip through dense plant-tangle. Is they very much place-scatters and abandoned its small precincts hardly once.

Muntjaks mark its changes with the secretion of the forehead-glands. its long, movable tongue is enough so far that they can "wash" the whole face with it.

Nutrition Muntjaks are omnivores. Beside foliage, shoots, bark and fruits, they eat also carrion and catch even smaller loot-animals or plunder the nests of ground-brooding birds.

Reproduction The Brunft of the Muntjaks is not tied in the tropical parts of its spread-area at any season. In the north, the combination takes place in January and Februaries. If the Muntjakhirsche fight together, they put in its cuspids besides the antlers.

The female places 1 or 2 spotted kids after approximately 180 days of Tragzeit.

Continuance As far as known, the Muntjaks are frequent in its spread-area.
