as Neonsalmler knows two types the aquarianist: the usual Neonsalmler, Neontetra or real neon (Paracheirodon innesi) and the red neon (Cheirodon axelrodi). Both types are regarded at all as the most beautiful Salmler probably rightly. its magnificent color-shine lets itself actually clarify only through the view: From the front-edge of the eye until approximately of the height of the dorsal fin, an iridescent bond (the "neon-tube") blue-green shining stretches. Below this among the fish of unique, beaming longitudinal-bond, a shining-red bandage of the tail-root only stretches with the usual Neonsalmler as far as to the body-middle. With the red neon, the red bond extends as far as to the muzzle-top and encroaches on the stomach and the throat. The stomach is light-silvery with both types.

About the discovery (1936) and the at first undisclosed place of discovery of the proper neon supple itself all sorts of stories. it comes very soft black-water of the upper Peruvian Amazon from it. This red neon was described only 1956 from also black-water leading source-brooks of the Rio Negro.

Both Salmler are very similar in body-form and coloring for itself. The length amounts to at most 4 cm.

Attitude Neon-little rascals ask for soft, easily sour water; for the breeding, this is absolute condition. With the after-breedings available in the ornament-fish-actions, the claims at the water-hardness are no more so big. Here, a habituation to the worse water-conditions took place over many generations. Nevertheless, one must offer also softer water to the breeding.

Breeding To the breeding, one puts down into a dimmed full-glass-basin at the best quite new pair and catches out the animals again after the spawn-act, that yields 100-200 eggs; the animals are spawn-robbers! Embarrassing tidiness and disinfecting are prerequisite, about a preferably bacteria - and, to guarantee fungus-poor water. The boys swim freely after barely one week and are to be nourished with finest living-feed.
