from the tyrants and Kolibris is known, that they could still immigrate from South America on the North American continent before existence of a country-connection. The old Tethysmeer could not prevent the bird-spread completely northward. Also in the modern time, there are proof for immigrations beyond big water-surfaces as the example shows Rubinköpfchen. Going out from the original spread-main focus in the tropical South America southwards until North-Argentina and East-Bolivia, it is to be found also on the Galápagos-Inseln today. This type certainly did the jump to Mexico and into the areas of the southern USA already earlier.

Shape The Rubinköpfchen has 13,5-14,5 cm of length. It is one of the most colorful tyrants. The male is colored vermilion at the waiter-head and at the underside. A wide strip at each head-side, backs, wings and tail stands to this in its dark brown one(s) or, dependent on the subtype, blackish coloring in strong contrast. The female differs strongly, is colored much pale and primarily dun. The shiny plumage of the male finds the expression particularly in the flight; the waiter-head-feathers can be set up as well. If one holds the bird in captivity, much of the splendid plumage-coloring gets lost.

Way of life In the behavior, the Rubinköpfchen hardly differ from the other Schmätzertyrannen. Alertly and high raised, they are on a lookout for flight-insects from the branch of a tree from. If they spotted its loot, it were caught in the fast flight and were taken back in the beak on the Ansitz. First here, the insects are consumed, with what the Rubinköpfchen sent, the feet can take to help, about the loot to zerzupfen. The large, indigestible feed-remains are from-choked again by the birds. Various vegetable food enriches the menu.

Brood The Rubinköpfchen build a deep, bowl-shaped nest in a branch-fork and usually pull a roof over it. Sometimes, the nest of another bird-type simply also becomes use and developed so that the strong tropical downpours don't impair the brood.
