Russian blue - a true lady among the cats. Known as also "archangel-cat", this race was introduced in Great Britain by sailors centuries ago. it probably comes from the area about Archangelsk in northwest-Russia. The maybe most famous cat of this breeding is the Vashka, that took a honorary-place at the yard of the Czar Nikolaus I of Russia. In the World War II, it had died out nearly. they survived thanks to the effort of one single breeder.

Originally, it had blue a penetrated body with a round head and orange eyes Russian. In the forties and fifties, breeders began with the in-crossing of Siamesen which led the dilution-gene with itself. With the introduction siamesischer genes in the limited gene-pool of this changed blue Körpertyp and eye-color Russian. The cat became longer and fine-bonier, and the eyes became green.
