Because of its peculiarity, to be immovable on certain Ansitzen on a lookout for past-flying loot-animals (insects), - only the two strongly extended middle tail-feathers with its pennant-good flags twitches back and forth like a pendulum regularly - and also because of its low fear of people, they are called in the Spanish "Bobos", therefore for example "fools."
Shape Prevailing in the plumage becomes green, blue and brown colors before; the flags of the middle tax-feathers the reaches, the birds trim pennant-nicely themselves terraced tail right even with the long, bent beaks. The tooth-good notches at the edges of the horn-beak gave its German name to these birds. Both sexes look largely similar.
Way of life In its habits, Sägeracken resemble the Todis of the Caribbean strongly. Beside many Gliedertieren, Sägeracken catch smaller vertebrates (also at the ground) occasionally; some of the bigger types eat also fruits. Before it gulps hits Sägeracken its loot-animals several times against the seat-branch, until they become motionless.

Here, both partners hatch its 3-4 white eggs for 3 weeks approximately, until that still slips bare and blind boys. Occasionally, Sägeracken take before-dearly also with already existing Erdbauten of other types of animal or with crevices. In cold regions, Z. B. Mountains, the squabs become very eagerly and long gehudert, while the intensive welfare of the alto-birds allows a discount of something in warm spread-areas soon. After 4-5 weeks for example, the young Sägeracken become airworthy.
Types As smallest type, the Zwergmotmot (Hylomanes momotula) long by 17 cm lives on South-Mexico in the dense undergrowth of the forest-region as far as after west-Colombia. its tail is only short and doesn't carry any pennants.
The 32,5-37,5 cm big Plattschnabelmotmot (Electron platyrhynchum) lives in the forests of Honduras until Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil.
The Blauscheitel-Motmot (Momotus momota) widespread from Mexico until Argentina, with 37,5-42,5 cm of total-length, as well as the biggest Sägeracken are the 40-45 cm long Rotkopfmotmot (Baryphthengus ruficapillus) from East-Brazil and Paraguay.
