Störche

StörcheScientific name:
Ciconiidae

Natural spread:
Africa, Europe, Asia

the 17-19 types of the Störche belongs to the biggest waders. they strengthened all one, long and pointed beak (with some types easily downward turned) with very wide basis and stretched necks, that don't show the typical S-förmigen crack of the herons. Also, little sturgeon lacks the Puderdunen and finery-claws of the herons; the Bürzeldrüse is well developed for it. The toes are powerfully trained and carry spreads, nail-similar claws; a small instep-skin connects the 3 front-toes among each other. Störche have a more powerful plumage than herons, 12 Handschwingen and just as many tax-feathers. Before the youth-dress, the squabs train 2 Dunenkleider.

Nutrition Jungstörche remain as typical nest-stools until the fully-fledged-development in the eyrie where they are provided with high-choked food by both alto-birds. Störche hunt after fishings, amphibians, reptiles and small-mammals in the flat water, on meadows or in the swampy terrain. Also insects, all sorts of worms and mollusks play an important role in the food-offer of this Schreitvögel. So, the two types of the Klaffschnäbel (type Anastomus) live mainly from swamp-cover-snails and other mollusks of the sweet-waters.

Klaffschnäbel The 81 cm long (vertex-height 68 cm) white or Silberklaffschnabel (Anastomus oscitans) south and Südostasiens, primarily pulls the big swamp-cover-snails of the type Pila from its casings, in that it cuts off the shutter-cover first and then tears the soft-body in a flash from the shell without essentially destroying it on that occasion. The split between the edges of waiter and sub-beak (is not yet trained it with squabs and originates slowly only after abandonment of the nest) is therefore not used (beak-length 15-16 cm) for the breakup but to the adherence of the snail-peel. Also cancers, frogs and other small vertebrates take the white Klaffschnäbel, they belong to India's frequent little sturgeon, in the more inferior scope on. Only the shoulder-wings, energy and tail-feathers are black with them, the remaining plumage is knows.

At the approximately equally big moor, or the entire plumage is black Klaffschnabel (Anastomus lamelligerus) Africa and Madagascar however black and, as also the black plumage-parts with the Asian type - from metallic shine. Also with the African Klaffschnäbeln, the beak is in same manner on big water-snails (u). a. Type Lanistes, and mussels specialize. its edges carry a bristle-good horn-perforation. Supposedly the birds should expose for a very long time big mussels at the shore of the swollen sun until its peels open these sufficiently far that the Störche can between-push its beak-top.

Actual Störche (type Ciconia)) With most stork-types, the plumage is extensively black-and-white patterned, both sexes resemble from. Störche are good planes, that (with exception of the Marabus) stretch its necks exactly in the flight to the front and are able to sail excellently. Our Weißstörche (Ciconia ciconia) move wide routes as inhabitants of Eurasia's restrained widths into the tropical Africa as well as. to South-Asia.

With 0,95-1 m of total-length, the Schwarzstörche remain somewhat smaller than the well-known Weißstörche. they also live more shyly and more secluded than its cousin, above all in lonesome forests. its brood-area extends from Central Europe's (individual occurrences in Lower Saxony, Holstein, Mecklenburg and southeast-Bavaria) east, Southern Europe (Spain) and Scandinavia to west-China; an independent population exists in the southern Africa in addition. Schwarzstörche more frequently than Weißstörche cross the Alps and the Mediterranean even if the bulk moves over the Bosporus. they sail less extensively as its bigger relatives and therefore is somewhat more independent from the thermal buoyancy over country. Störche undertake conditional hikes also in warm and tropical regions of Africa (where many stork-types are native) and Asia seasonally.

So, the 75 cm long Abdimstörche (Ciconia abdimii) move from its brood-areas in the central Africa (from the Senegal to Ethiopia and Uganda) in more southern areas of the continent during the dry-period as well as North-westward on the Arabic peninsula. At the rain-time, these "Regenstörche" come back into its home-like brood-precincts where they are seen as Schädlingsvertilger and harbingers of profitable precipitations gladly and are protected.

Further types Also the 80 cm of big Wollhalsstörche (Dissoura episcopus) from Africa and South-Asia exterminate large quantities damaging insects also for the human being. Particularly in extensive bush and grass-fires, Störche of different types often appear in large numbers in order to pick up the fleeing Kerbtiere.

The already mentioned Abdimstörche belong to the smallest little sturgeon; the Marabus, the Sattelstörche and the 1,2-1,4 m of big Jabirús (Jabiru mycteria) are the biggest representatives of its family and consequently the biggest waders at all from means and South America (South-Mexico until Argentina and Bolivia) on the other hand. Jabirús (Indian name) see Marabus very similarly, has a completely white plumage, however; only head and neck are unbefiedert and black; the neck-base over the shoulders is particularly accentuated through a red skin-part. Also the group of the Nimmersatte (type Ibis) includes quite big Störche with 1 m and more vertex-height.

All Störche sail gladly and very persevering at suitable places in strong upcurrents where also different types can meet and often around-circle for hours.

Lautgebung Adult Störche are mute mostly and let only rarely heard (Syrinx and Syrinxmuskulatur are strongly receded) real reputations. The beak-clatter takes on the task of the communication in many behaviors. Jungstörche on the nest still are vocal quite active and express a whole number of diverse tones.

Endangering The black-stork (Ciconia nigra) is on the red list of the types threatened by the extinction with us and is also regarded as endangered internationally. So, it is presented also in the appendix II of the Washingtoner Artenschutzübereinkommens.
