the Tahre is a type, that stands independently beside goats and sheep. Therefore, the Latin name "Hemitragus" declares itself = semi-goat. The type was earlier widespread as far as to Europe.

3 types let themselves it distinguish: the Himalayatahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus), the Nilgiritahr (Hemitragus hylocrius) and the Arabische Tahr (Hemitragus jayakari).

Physique The withers-height of the Tahre amounts by 100 cm with a weight until approximately 100 kg. Females are considerably smaller. The horns occurring with both sexes have a clear edge. A glandular-field is under the tail.

Spread, habitat The Himalayatahr comes as the name already says, in the Himalaya before, the Arabische Tahr in a small population on the Arabic peninsula and the Nilgiritahr in India's south. Tahre are at wooded mountainsides preferably. In Arabia, they live in an open one, vegetation-hands high mountain region-landscape. Comings and reappears Tahre above the timberline.

Way of life The herds consist of females and young. A herd can include up to 40 animals. In the morning and in the evening, these semi-goats are active. The Klettervermögen of the Tahrs resembles that of its relative.
