the Vari is the showiest Lemur (Lemuren) surely. it is bigger than the Mohrenmaki and has a very long, dense fur, that is colored splendidly colorfully in different variations. (Vari, from Lemur variegatus = the "differently-colored" Lemur.
Shape The face has a clear neck-frill from long, densely standing hair. There are forms, that black-and-white, other, that brown-black-and-white or brown-knows is colored. Also sorrel-white colored animals are frequent.
Face, hands, feet and tail always are black or dun, the neck-frill, forearms and legs always knows. Some "subtypes", according to the black-and-white, that been described red, the brown or the Weißgürtel-Vari, are in accordance with the different color-varieties.
The dense fur makes the Vari to a typical inhabitant of the rain-forest. The long-ongoing rain and the continually dripping leaves of the trees cannot soak the dense fur of the Vari.
Way of life Seem the sun once, then, the Vari sits at the morning (how the Sifakas) with extended arms and dries or warms itself.
The Vari is preferentially active in the twilight and the first night-half. it spends the day recumbent in the dense Blätterkronen of the trees. While jumps its nightly food-search, it runs and climbs skillfully through branches and branches. it lives from fruits, leaves and bark.
The Vari lives in family-groups of 3-5 animals. This so nicely looking Lemur strikes up a gruesome howling the at night, that sounds like the insane laughter of a human being. It always begins the male; the other group-members then butt in on the bellow-chant. Other families answer the chant so that the forest is filled by the gruesome roar completely soon. The uncanny choir suddenly then breaks off, and it prevails silence momentarily.
Reproduction The female brings to the world 1-3 kids in November. they were born in a tree-cave or in a nest padded with hair in a branch-fork. The mother stays the first life-days with the boys; later, it gets only suckling and cares. With danger, the mother transports the babies after cat-type in the mouth. In contrast to other semi-monkeys, the Varis were born very helplessly. they admittedly have open eyes, the fur is however only little developed. Only the mother takes care beginning of the child. If however, the young can leave the nest after one week, also the male employs itself with it. After 3-4 weeks, the young Vari already does gymnastics around and begins to take solid food to itself. Mother and child call themselves mutually if they don't have any more view-contact.
Endangering The Vari is endangered through forest-clearances.
