in different caves in Mexico lives the blind Höhlensalmler very interesting for the biologist. With its strongly receded eyes and the pigment-draws lots skin they show typical adaptation-appearances at a subterranean water-life. they get the bearings mainly with its side-line-organ (fish). Through movements of its tail flukes, they generate currents, these are thrown back from the surroundings and can be registered with the side-line-organ.

Formation of the cave-fish The cave-waters stand with the surface-water in connection at least at times, so with floods. There, it lives pigmented and sehtüchtige, therefore completely normally developed exit-form, that Silbersalmler (Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus). These fish conquered many caves in the course of the time as new habitat and trained in every differently far advanced adaptation-figure. The transitions extend from the normal exit-form to the extremely reduced type as the blind person Höhlensalmler embodies it.
