the wild canary from the type Girlitze is on the Canary and Kapverdischen islands widespread originally, was naturalized, however, in Spain, Italy and other European countries. It is unlikely that it belongs to the same type as our European Girlitz (Serinus serinus).

Way of life The canaries prefer pushed through country open with bush-vegetation and small forests. Here they usually live in small associations and cancel in fast, wavy flight from the open surfaces. This of metallic sounding Zwitscherstrophen, hides recited from trees, shrubs or vines, has little with the chant of the domesticated forms together.

House-canary Wild canaries are introduced since the conquest of the Canary islands (1478) to Europe and are bred by lovers here. Chant-competitions with the best "singers" let the "Harzer scooters" attain big fame. The breeding was gone in for in the resin throughout the population as additional acquirement-sources, however, its meaning lost through the starting tourism.
