the chaffinch is one of the most known European Singvögel and occurs in the west of the old world of the west-paläarktischen as far as to the mediterranen zone. The southern spread-border is northwest-Africa. The chaffinch is very numerous in the culture-country, it advances eastward more and more and increases numerically also in west-Siberia. Foliage and needle-forests of the lowlands form its habitat as far as to the sub-alpine zone, also parks and gardens are assumed as brood-precincts. The chaffinch usually lives from seeds and fruits, but also insects and snails are liked to take. During the incubation, the high protein-demand is met with insects, who look for the chaffinch-parents above all in the treetops, otherwise the food is picked up at the ground as well.

Reproduction its bowl-shaped nests build the chaffinches from lichens and webs in a branch-fork or densely at the log, occasionally also at shrubs. Two yearly-broods frequently are reared (3-6 eggs per nests).

Train The chaffinches are part-pickpockets. While the populations of the restrained zones in the snow look for food as well, above all the northern brood-birds move in to the hibernation into Europe's south. The Zuggewohnheiten can be different with both sexes.

Chant Chaffinch-cocks became known through its varied chant, that lets itself divide in "dialects" dependent on the habitat of the population. The birds were specifically bred because of its chants in big scope earlier.

The Canaries-chaffinch or Teydefink (Fringilla teydea) live Canaria and Tenerife on grain only in the dense, high jaw-forest of the mountains.
