diving-ducksScientific name:
Aythyini

Natural spread:
global occurrences

the diving-ducks of the types is Netta and Aythya after it specialized to fish its food when diving or when swimming under water. its body is according penetrated and the neck more shortly than with the swimming-ducks. they also lie much more deeply in the water and carry the tail not so highly. its big feet position at the body far behind; the rear-toe carries a wide "loose screw-tree or rags." So, they don't have easily arising. Before they take off, they must take a corresponding attempt until the small and pointed wings can carry the compact body. Nevertheless, the diving-ducks are very skillful planes.

Types As transition-form of the swimming-ducks, the piston-duck (Netta rufina, 56 cm of length) would be to be marked, because it acquires also gründelnd its food. As the sex-partners distinguish themselves through a deviant plumage-coloring with most types. The drake wears a shining, sorrel bonnet, that stands in strong contrast by the ebony neck and breast-part, in its breast-dress. The olive upper side and the gray-white breast-side hardly deviate from the coloring of the female, as well the silence-dress is to be distinguished only little of this. In principle it is applicable to all types that the female-dress never is so strongly spotted as we know it approximately from the mallard.

The piston-duck is widespread in the European area as brood-bird only very sporadically; closed occurrences are in southwest-Asia. Large accumulations occur only during the Zugzeit if the large troops of the distinct migratory birds visit a resting place. A known example is the Lake Constance for this. The hibernation-areas lie in the Mediterranean-area and in the southern Asia.

As single diving-duck with a long, black bonnet is the male of the heron-duck (Aythya fuligula); 43 cm, to recognize, easily. It is to be confused at all only with the Halsringente (Aythya collaris), that comes from North America only as rare Irrgast to Europe, however. The heron-duck advances very far in Eurasia's north as brood-bird and is sociable in the winter to find on ice-free waters of south and Western Europe, in North-Africa and in the middle and more southern Asia; Meeresküsten more rarely are looked for.

Preferably, the Bergente (Aythya marila) lasts on the sea on the other hand; 48 cm of length, in the winter in larger flocks on. Occasionally, one finds even bastards among them between Bergente and blackboard-duck (Aythya ferina); 46 cm of length, that broods at the inner-waters of the tundra and the Taiga side by side. In the winter, the blackboard-duck prefers ice-free streams as residence. The maroon bog-duck (Aythya nyroca) only remains in the European spread-area; 41 cm of length, to mention, to amount them only very heavily in the dense vegetation from standing inner-waters, is. However, the bog-duck is regarded as extinct with us.

As with our blackboard-duck, also the name of the essentially bigger American giant-blackboard-duck (Aythya valisneria) is to be led back on it that its palatable meat is liked to consume. it is among the most popular hunt-pure birds in America. Also the Peposakaente (Netta peposaca, 58 cm of length) is liked to hunt in the South American pampas. Further types are world in the newcomer and elderly until Australia widespread.

Nutrition The food consists predominantly of plant-sharing and is supplemented through small animals (water-insects, cancers and mollusks). All diving-ducks could immerse it, attains, beside it also sieves, only as an exception gründelnd. With the heron-duck, the animal food prevails.

Brood The nests lie usually hidden at the edge of inner-waters in moist-areas. Some types seem to be inclined to put individual eggs into the nests of other diving-ducks so that high nest-numbers (Z) can occur. B. Redhead-duck, Aythya americana. However, they brood on its own nest beside it. The earlier assumed brood-parasitism of the Peposakaente could not be proved. The sexually mature of the boys steps already after the 1. Year of life one.
