Spread Foliage-singers are spread in the old world, with exception of the Australian mainland, New Zealand and Madagascar. they brood in Eurasia's restrained climate-zones in general and move to South-Asia and Africa in the colder season. Only one type, the northern foliage-singer (Phylloscopus borealis), prolonged its brood-area over the Bering-street to Alaska and the single representative of the whole subfamily of the warblers with it is in the new world.

Way of life, types Mainly, the foliage-singers are in the treetops or in the foliage of high bushes. Often, they form larger groups here, that can get together. Some types, Z. B. the dark foliage-singer (Phylloscopus fuscatus) or the beard-foliage-singer (Ph). schwarzi, lives in also low hedge in ground-proximity. So the small birds (9-13 cm of length) live very hidden and live from small insects, who find it between the foliage. They actually betray the observer themselves only through its voice-joyfulness and its chants. So, one can recognize the Zilpzalp (Phylloscopus collybita) Ph by its well-sounding chant, as well the Fitis, in our area. trochilus, or the forest-foliage-singer (Ph). sibilatrix. The fourth Central European type is the mountain-foliage-singer (Ph). bonelli.

Brood Builds mostly and breeds the females predominantly. The nests are relatively big and clearly oven-shaped; the lateral nest-entrance is roofed. So, only a small Schupfloch remains open. This from 6-7, if second yearly-brood: 4-5, eggs existing nests is hatched by the very much stuck female in 12-13 days.

Shape The almost 40 types of the foliage-singer I.e.S. (Type Phylloscopus, is to be distinguished only very heavily by its look in the field. All have a showy, pale Ãœberaugenstreif, one becomes green until brown upper side and a lighter, sometimes greenish-yellow underside.
