forest-dog

forest-dogScientific name:
Speothos venaticus

Natural spread:
South America

co its short legs, the small round ears and that stocky bodies are the forest-dog the opposite of the mane-wolf. If one casts a glance at its habitat, so however one understands that this "bear-form" brings it many advantages: The forest-dog lives in the tropical Urwälder South America, from Panama southwards until Paraguay, and the river lasts in the dense plant-tangle there preferably, swamp, and shores on. With its penetrated body, it can fast and easily even through most luxuriant thicket through-slips.

Forest-dogs are competent hunters: they live and hunt in smaller family-associations of mostly four to six animals and can kill also bigger loot-animals like Mazamas (Spiesshirsche) and Nandus (run-birds) thanks to its good cooperation. However, main-loot-animals of the forest-dogs are Pakas and Capybaras. The big rodents frequently occur in water-proximity, are good swimmers and often take therefore shelter in the water if danger threatens. If however, forest-dogs are behind them ago, so the little is of use to them. The stocky hunters are same, in contrast to most other game-dogs, outstanding swimmers and divers and hardly leaves its victims a chance also in the water.

its head-torso-length amounts 60, 75 cm at a shoulder-height of 25, to 30 cm and a weight of 5 - 8 kg.
