the eastern fox-croissant populates the entire east of the USA with a whole series of subtypes. The west-border of the spread lies approximately with the 100. Longitude. The northern forms, with which plays southern, are the color more rust-colored in the gray or blackish; furthermore, they have a white nose-top and white ears.

Way of life The fox-croissant lives in very different forest-types. It lives in jaw-forests, in oaks and beech-continuances and on swamp-cypresses. its way of life resembles that of our native Eichhörchens very much. It doesn't hold any hibernation like this and quarrels food-supplies. It builds a big, solid winter-nest, in which also the boys are reared. In the summer, furthermore even easier summer-nests are built. The females bear 2 - 4 kids once per year.

Endangering Still, the fox-croissants were quite frequent before not far too long time. Through clearing of many forests and shooting through "hunt-athletes", the continuances declined very strongly. Two subtypes already are endangered so that its extermination must be feared.
