already 1839 was described scientifically the Syrian gold-hamster, it almost still should last a century, however, until one could recover these small Nager. Only while a gold-hamster-female could be dug out a 1930 through North-Syria of carried out expedition near Aleppo (today Haleb) with 12 boys. The but-millions gold-hamsters, who are held in the whole world as game and experimental animals today, descend from these then further-bred animals.
Reproduction The fertility of the gold-hamster is enormous. After a Tragzeit of only 16 days, the females bring up to 12 young to the world. The gold-hamsters have with it within the mammals, except the marsupials, the shortest pregnancy-duration. In the year is possible until 8 throws, the boys even are again reproductive-capable already with 10 weeks!
Caught-attitude Before one decides on the attitude of a gold-hamster, one should heed some hints. Only far too often, the cute animals are given away at children, who then heed its hamsters no more after some time, and neglect it. In order to have joy of the gold-hamster, one must take regard on its behaviors.
The gold-hamster is night-active. One therefore should it during the day preferably lets sleep and plays only in the evening with it. For such activity and contact of its keeper, however, it then is very grateful, however, it brings some alternation of its monotonous cage-life.
The cage must be cleaned regularly. Beside it, sprinkles in necessarily needs Nistmaterial the gold-hamster. For its Nagebedürfnis, it is good if it can produce this for himself himself. It suffices to lay it solid paper, excelsior, Stoffetzen or hay into the cage. it erodes this material to small scraps and pads its nest or little houses for itself with it.
One should not feed it too amply varied and above all. As reason-food, venal gold-hamster-feed is recommended, complementary to it some fruit, potato, carrot and salad. Also now and then some raw meat and smaller insects and their larvae, like Z. B. Flour-worms, contributes to its well-being.
One should make children, who want to nurse a gold-hamster, familiar also with it that its darling gains only a relatively short age, 2 to at most 3 years. Furthermore, it is sensitive, small animals with fragile bones, that one don't press to taste or can even around-carry in the pants-bag. For this reason, one should consider oneself, whether maybe a guinea pig is not the better suitable game-animal, because it is more robustly and becomes essentially older.
