the mackerel-pikes became known only in 4 types until now. they perform as open sea-inhabitants in large quantities. its slim, long-stretched body with the "pike-good" one, it marks pointed tapered head as fast swimmers, who live from smaller fishings and cancer-animals.

Atlantic mackerel-pike (Scomberesox saurus)) it is widespread in the entire North-Atlantic and comes in as far as to the Canary islands and into the Mediterranean before. In the more southern parts of this spread-area, also the spawn-zones lie. With the seasonal Erwärmung of the Atlantic, the fish hike until Nova Scotia (Canada), Iceland and Norway northward. They appear occasionally also in the North sea on that occasion. Despite the palatable meat, an aimed catch is not worthwhile on the 40-50 cm long fish since they appear only irregularly and then in too low quantities with us.

The remaining types of mackerel-pikes live in all other warm and restrained seas of the earth. Many of them fall victim to tunas, fan-fishings and other robbers. On the escape from its enemies, they jump also out of the water and land on the decks of ships, that cross the swarm by chance, in large number occasionally.
