the most original of all living game-dogs is the marten-dog descendant from north-east and Eastern Asia and Japan, whom one names also raccoon-dog because of its raccoon-similar look, although it doesn't have anything in common with the American small-bear. it is an ancient game-dog, whose predecessors immigrated against end of the Tertiärs over the Bering-bridge into north-east-Asia. Marten-dogs were exposed in Russia to beginning of this century, from where itself from it to east, north, and Central Europe prolonged. Meanwhile, they are native also with us. As single game-dog, the marten-dog goes in the northeast of its spread-area through a winter-silence.

Way of life Marten-dogs live twilight, and night-actively in pairs or in small family-groups in tundra and Taiga as well as in park, and culture-landscapes. they prefer moist foliage and Mischwald with dense undergrowth; rock and burrows are its apartment. they nourish also the otherwise spurned toads as omnivores of small-mammals, amphibians, for itself under it, fishings, invertebrates, all sorts of fruits and berries. In Europe, the marten-dog carries off also eggs and squabs and breaks into house-poultry-stalls.

As also the raccoon, the marten-dog relatively late was registered the first time with us only. Thanks to its secret way of life, it could hide long holds and partially now acts as pest of brood-colonies of birds with us.

Reproduction Marten-dogs multiply extraordinarily strongly. In some cases to the world, the females brought 9-12 kids. Care is taken of the boys by both parents. The reproductive-time begins very much according to climate-areas in March, that Tragzeiten shall, fluctuates.

Endangering Marten-dogs are not endangered, but they stretch in the opposite further.
