Reproduction After an inner fertilization, the female brings to the world, that lives as a plankton-glutton at the water-surface at first and moves on to the ground-life only with a length of 6 cm, 35 000-150 000 animate kids in larva-form.

Spread As arctic depth-fish with predatory way of life is the red-perch of the white sea over pointed-mountains widespread as far as to Greenland and Canada; it comes to the south of until west-Norway and Scotland as well as in the west through the cold Labradorstrom as far as in height of New York before.

Red-perch and depth-perch The red-perch lives in depths between 70 and 800 m. Interestingly, two different races developed in this big depth-area: From 70-200 m, the normal red-perch (Sebastes marinus marinus) comes be give a home the so-called depth-perch (Sebastes marinus mentellus), who is called also "beak-perch", as surface-form before, while from 300-800 m. Mixtures between both races are found between 200 and 300 m. So we have the unique case with the red-perch that two races are not distinguished after the geographical spread but after a so-called ecological, vertical spread. The depth-perch clearly distinguishes a chin-tap ("beak-perch") through paler color, bigger eyes, for himself from the surface-race, that form of the gill-cover and different number of fuss. The meat of the depth-perch is softer and more high-fat.

Economic meaning in 1889, the red-perch was offered to fish-market on the Hamburg-Altonaer for the first time. The depth-perch much later followed only since it is possible through modern catch-technologies, depths up to 1000 m to befishesn. In any other country, this high-fat fish of such popularity doesn't enjoy like in Germany. Red-perch primarily comes on the market as ready-to-eat, deep-frozen fillet, in small quantities also newly, however, or smoked.

Further types Comes before west-Norway farther south, at Scotland, Ireland and South-Iceland the blue-mouth (Helicolenus dactylopterus), that is smaller than the red-perch and distinguishes itself through a blue-black mouth-cave-coloring (therefore the name), before. Several red-perch-types live at the American and Asian Pacific-coast. Partially, they have an economic meaning, Z. B. Sebastes inermis in Japan.
