silver-badger

silver-badgerScientific name:
Taxidae taxus

Natural spread:
America

in North America, from means-Canada until Mexico, lives the American or silver-badger. it is stockier than our European badger, for whom it is similar in the coloring; the American one has however narrower and less distinctive face-strips. The silver-badger works virtually flatly, turtle-good. The special about it is its long and silken-soft Behaarung, that let its fur become desirable in America unfortunately. it lives in open steppe-terrain, therefore also the name prairie-badger.

Nutrition Like our badger, an omnivore, whose vegetable food-share stands, however, somewhat more in the background, is also the silver-badger.

Reproduction Much more frequently than the other badgers, it is already in the afternoon and evening active. The Ranz of the silver-badgers falls into the time of August until September. The combination happens like with our badger on typical marten-type. After an extended Tragzeit with germ-silence (martens) of 7-8 months, the Fähe brings to the world 1-5 kids in March / April. it suckles the puppies for 6 weeks approximately. The boys become independently in September and leave its parents.
