the snow-bunting is the Singvogel brooding widest north. Like the spur-bunting (Calcarius lapponicus), it actually is among the neuweltlichen Scharrammern.

Spread Both types form a big exception in its zirkumpolaren spread in this bird-group. As inhabitants of the tundras and forest-belts of the Holarktis, both types execute conditional hikes seasonally, with what the spur-bunting moves much farther south. The snow-bunting is even stand-bird, Z, in many places. B. on Iceland; it lives at flat and open coasts in the winter. Both types are to be found also in the area of the German North Sea*-coast in the winter.

Way of life The snow-bunting-males arrive in the spring several weeks before the females in the arctic brood-area. they are colored almost snow-white in the brood-dress, only the back, that Handschwingen and a few tax-feathers are, black. Despite the camouflage, they rarely don't become the victim of the parasite-robbery-seagull (Stercorarius parasiticus). Even if the females finished its train, it puts in perform courtship display. High, circling Balzflüge together with the lark-similar chant are typical for the snow-bunting.

After the pair-formation, the snow-buntings usually brood in narrow rock-crannies and never in the flat tundra like the spur-bunting. Artificial cavities are also assumed; one can even find the nests settlements human in the proximity of house-walls and under the roofs. they are plentiful padded with feathers and hair. The birds come up with a brood 4-6 kids, sometimes, a second brood joins. The boys are fed quite exclusive with insects like gnats, moths and spiders while the alto-birds live from seeds as well.
